New Britain, CT – AVNA, Inc., a contract manufacturer of components and subassemblies for global medical device Original Equipment Manufacturers, is pleased to announce the promotion of Mario Chaves, Sr. to Vice President – Costa Rica Operations. In his new role, Chaves will oversee the strategic growth and development of the Company’s operations in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
A toolmaker by trade and passionate about leadership, Chaves has 34 years of manufacturing experience, with 15 of those years in the medical device industry. For the past ten years, he has been involved in the development and growth of our Costa Rica location, making tools, developing a state-of-the art manufacturing facility and leading an award-winning team of 100+ employees.
“Since the beginning, Mario has focused on building a strong culture to drive growth, innovation, and talent,” said President & CEO Jason Howey. “He continues to build a world-class team, developing talent to support recruitment efforts throughout our organization.”

In his free time, Chaves is an avid runner, having competed in six marathons and three half Ironman events. He credits endurance sports for teaching him that success is the culmination of many small actions that in the end become a major achievement. He believes perseverance and discipline pays off and applies these principles to his daily leadership atAVNA . Mario resides in Alajuela with his wife of 32 years and has two sons.
