Auto Press Operator
Job Summary
The Set-Up Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting mechanical presses and coil-feeding equipment in a fast-paced metal stamping environment. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
Essential Job Functions
- Set up and operate straight-side and gap-frame mechanical presses ranging from 30 to 400 tons
- Perform daily production set-ups according to established procedures
- Operate and troubleshoot coil feeding equipment, including cradles, reels, de-coilers, and stock straighteners
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and support progressive and compound metal stamping dies
- Inspect finished product to specification using inspection instruction sheets
- Utilize precision measuring equipment, including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, comparators, and vision systems
- Lift, position, and load coils and containers of product safely
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members
- Prioritize job changes in a fast-paced production environment
Qualifications & Skills
- Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with standard hand tools
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a team-based environment
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Dependable with good attendance
- Ability to regularly lift moderate loads (under 40 lbs.)
Experience Requirements
- 3+ years of Set-Up Operator experience preferred
- Working knowledge of:
- Metal stamping processes
- Mechanical press operation
- Coil feeding systems
- Machine shop equipment
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, and sensors is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Regular lifting and material handling in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motion
