Metal Finishing Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Metal Finishing Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the development and continual improvement of parts finishing processes that include tumble deburr, parts cleaning, passivation, electropolishing, bead & grit blasting. This role requires attention to detail, precision, and the ability to work with specialized tools and machinery to ensure high-quality finishes on metal parts and components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Select and acquire metal finishing and ancillary equipment to support product and capacity needs.
- Develop metal finishing processes for tumble deburr, parts cleaning (aqueous-ultrasonic, modified alcohol, vapor degreasing) passivation, electropolishing and bead blasting.
- Document processing sheets and work instructions with workflow included.
- Train manufacturing personnel to the process sheet/work instruction.
- Develop maintenance requirements and intervals for parts finishing equipment.
- Audit processes to ensure continued compliance with documented processes.
- Troubleshoot issues with finishing processes and drive improvements.
- Ensure compliance with safety and proper handling of chemicals used in finishing processes.
- Work collaboratively with production teams to meet project deadlines and specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience; technical training in metalworking or finishing is a plus.
- Experience in metal finishing or surface treatment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality finishes.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and handling of hazardous materials.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift/move heavy materials as needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in metal finishing or a related field.
- Experience with automated finishing equipment.
- Knowledge of different metals and how they react to finishing processes.
